A graduate of Drexel University's Screenwriting & Playwriting program, Julia's interest in writing began at age 13 when she won the Delaware Young Playwright's festival for her comedic one-act "The Ruby Necklace". She enjoys horror, but uses her background in comedy to create unsettling, yet strangely funny stories. She is the proud mother of three ornery cats.
I originally wrote "Georgia Mayflower" as a feature length film for my Senior Thesis. In the first four drafts of this script, Georgia was a man named Gordon. I pitched the script idea to a friend of mine who asked if I considered making him a woman instead. I liked the idea of mixing up the traditional Norman Bates serial killer trope, so I made Gordon in to Georgia. Ideally "Georgia Mayflower" would be a four part mini-series in an anthology of unlikely killer stories. The second season in this anthology involves three middle schoolers in a punk band who try to murder the other bands at their school in an effort to win a Battle of the Bands competition. It's called "Support Your Local Scene." My goal as a writer is to make the audience laugh, and then make them feel horrified that they're laughing. I hope I accomplish that with this pilot.
