Erin Neal is a writer and filmmaker born to gypsy parents in Northridge, CA. She grew up on set for films and back stage at theaters, working as a Production Assistant as young as ten years old.
Now as an adult, she has produced feature length independent films and documentaries (Run Hide Die, Junkyard to Finish Line), as well as written over a dozen short films and commercial spots. Her writing has appeared on web publications for All Mom Does where she spoke on parenting and Smarthouse Creative where she discussed the pitfalls of independent film distribution.
Her next project is an sci-fi adventure set amidst political turmoil and social uprising. She currently resides in Spokane with her husband, her daughter and their dog Ellie- named for one of her heroes Eleanor Roosevelt.
I have discovered that I have a knack for utilizing the thrill of adventure to discus the broader issues facing our world, including gender inequality and the oppressive nature of powers that substitute tyranny for the common good. It results in a discussion of “why” that allows the audience to engage with one another to decide what it is that makes them accept things the way they are.
As I develop my art and create more, I am pushing my work to transcend just one form. So while I may write a screenplay to collaborate with other artists to make a film, I am also create a complementing novel that explores the world further. The hope being that I can take the book to places a film may not be able to travel, letting my audience experience these thoughts and questions more deeply as they follow the characters through the world I am writing.
