Ruth is a couples’ counselor/sex therapist raised by lesbian moms. Though she is terrific with her clients, encouraging them to open up to their intimate desires, she herself has a stilted and painfully vanilla sex life with her British chef fiancé. When their engagement fizzles, she is left to seek an empowered singlehood and must take her own relationship advice.

Writer Statement

In much of my writing, I look for funny and impactful ways to tell the story of my two moms, who met 40 years ago at a loft party in Soho and, in 1985, embarked on the adventure of raising a child together as a lesbian couple. With this pilot, I'm focusing on how their bravery and the scars of the challenges they've faced, impact their straight daughter. My mothers are hilarious. As a comedian, I want to share this fictionalized version of my family's story and allow LGBTQ millennials a chance at a little voyeurism into the dynamics of such a family, now that they are starting their own.
