TENNIS BUDDIES

Anushka , the only child of the Singhs , Dilip and Jaya , is the apple of their eye. Dilip has his eyes trained on making her India’s premier tennis player and he is unrelenting in his pursuit. On her part , she is also equal to the task and the father daughter duo makes an undiluted effort till the Team tournament comes calling. The two seemingly fall apart but her heart is the right place as she sets about propelling a group of rookie non serious casual players into serious pros and finally there is redemption for the father daughter duo as Anushaka goes on to win the Interclub tournament for her club , doing her father proud. Well and truly a father daughter film in the backdrop of camaraderie [buddies] and the game of tennis.

Director Biography - Suhail Tatari

Suhail Tatari, an Arts graduate from Lucknow University began his journey with a career in Advertising. From 1985 to 1989 he learnt the skills of advertising as part of the film` s department at Shilpi Advertising. Later the he worked as freelance director on various documentaries for various private companies and govt departments.
Surabhi, a TV series on Doordarshan, marked the beginning of a new era for him. The renowned television cultural series saw him experimenting with the form on various stories. This also brought him in the world of television. Further it saw him making forays in fiction on television. KADAM, REPORTER, FARZ, NAYAY, KANYADAAN, KASHMEER, MISSING are some of his important serials for television. His forte in handling intricate relationships is considered his strong point. His BESTSELLERS (STAR TV), RISHTAY (ZEE TV), and telefilms (SAHARA TV) are considered a testimony of it.
ANKUR ARORA MURDER CASE, SUMMER 2007 and BHAIRAVI are three of his feature films. Ankur Arora muder case (2013) deals with an important issue of medical negligence. Summer 2007 (released June 08) deals with an important issue of farmer suicide against the backdrop of resurgent & growing India and has been hailed as an important film on the subject. Bhairavi a relationship based film on the` Indian musical gharana` is a poignant tale of a woman in search of her lost identity.
SUMMER 2007 has already been to several film festivals including the prestigious IFFI at Goa, Asian First film festival at Singapore and festivals at Trichur and Bangalore. It was also sent to Cairo as an official entry by the DFF for best film on socially relevant issue last year.
He directed a feature film for Chidren`s film Society of India (CFSI) titled “TENNIS BUDDIES”
Suhail Tatari has won several TV awards including Screen Videocon, RAPA and the ITA.

Director Statement

Parents have often tried to live their dreams through their children.. forcing them to pursue a profession or stream of their choice. Does it help the child? In most cases NO.
Tennis Buddies is a journey of Young tennis player Anushka who is pressurised to play the game as seen by her father, an ex Tennis player. Coaching techniques v/s natural instincts often become a point of conflict. The pressure of following in her father's footsteps becomes a bone of contention for Anushka till she rebels.
Tennis Buddies in a simple narrative tells the kids to pursue their dreams the way they want.. as they want it relentlessly!!
