Writer Biography - Jess Mazza, Robert Moxley

Jess Mazza is a Brooklyn based filmmaker. She currently studies screenwriting at Barry R. Feirstein School of Cinema Arts where she co-founded the Women at Feirstein Filmmakers Alliance to support gender equality on set. Previously, she earned an undergraduate degree in Creative Writing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she studied with poets Patrick Durgin and Matthew Ghoulish and co-produced the web-based project An American Life in Writing.

Since moving to New York she has written, directed and produced two short films and has freelanced on set as a production, wardrobe and camera assistant. Her stories deal mainly with femininity, sexual and social maturation, and personal identity within dramatic, dark comedy and comedic genres. Her favorite color is red but she wears a lot of blue.

After six years as a Petty Officer in the US Navy, Robert Moxley reinvented himself in the film industry, earning his BA in film from Brooklyn College and working freelance in both Grip & Electric and Development. Robert made his start in improv comedy troupe The Con Men, then transitioned to stand-up. Since then, he’s been writing romcoms and buddy movies.

In fall of 2016, Jess and Robert both wrote and produced a comedic short series due for Summer 2017 release. The series follows the escapades of two jaded roommates in Brooklyn as they sublet their third railroad apartment bedroom to a naive Midwesterner. They are both part of the inaugural class at Barry R. Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema.
