A Symphony Of Holy Machinic Dogs
A remediation of experimental cinema through networked, algorhythmic, and artificial intelligence interfaces to interrogate how an aesthetically-oriented machinic subjectivity might interpret ‘experimental/avant garde cinema’.
In the vein of Gustav Deutsch’s "Film Ist" as well as Bill Morrison’s collage films, a variety of canonical works in the history of avant grade and surrealist cinema coalesce to form a narrativity which grasps toward essences. The visual source material is interpreted by Google's Deep Dreams neural network and re-composited over its original.
Born out of Dada and Surrealist impulses, the trajectory of ‘experimental film’ leads us to our contemporary regime of post-cinematic media ecology. A digital landscape of computational processes. If Dada and Surrealism were interested in drawing insights toward the irrational core of subjective-subconscious, Then here we are asking: How might a computer’s dream look, sound, and feel?
