Her Voice
“Her Voice” offers an enigmatic stream of consciousness that resists conventional narrative expectations. In a certain way, the film echoes the #MeToo era, in which we live now. Somewhere between the desperate Boop-Oop-a-Doop’s of a vintage Betty Boop and the film experiments of Maya Deren. “Her Voice” reflects a woman's subjectivity and her sometimes problematic relation to the external world.

So far, Voetvolk has produced 8 shows: *) Forever Overhead (2007) *) Birth of Prey (2008) *) HeroNeroZero (2010) *) L'origine (2011) *) It's going to get worse and worse and worse, my friend (2012) *) AH/HA (2014) *) Lisbeth Gruwez dances Bob Dylan (2015) *) We're pretty fuckin' far from okay (2016)

Defrance makes use of an experimental method of montage where she lets the film develop ‘in the process’. There was not a written script, in the sense that it was written in a lineair way evolving from A to B, but there was definitely a well defined framework and theme she worked on. She makes use of a method she likes to call “cinematic writing” which means she writes the final film during the editing process. In that process the final composition of the film emerges from the separate filmed scènes, sounds, songs and texts. Where necessary she ads digital manipulation through loops, manipulation of time, reframing of found footage and adding emptied images with no representation in favour of contemplation.
