I am Rupesh Ghimire (33) from Dolakha, a remote village of Nepal. I studied film in Oscar International College and graduated in 2016. I have made four short films experimenting in cinema arts. I have attempted personal and honest cinema, to express my inner thoughts. I want to portray typical nepali elements in films through the style of time narration, giving viewers to experience the moment.
This story is my attempt at honest and personal cinema making. I grew up in a secluded community of a village. And growing up in a place with not much events happening around instilled a sense of futility to my existence. It felt like I was just passing time to pass time. Apart from moments spent with my friends, there was not much ‘exciting’ happening. So, even the minute natural events held a certain sense of hypnotic charm to me. In this futility to pass my time, I found a deeper fulfillment in the serendipitous events of nature. Every small element, like the breeze blowing through the leaves, the ripples across the lake held me captive and felt to me like some sort of divine poem.
Now, living in the city has sapped all that wonderment and I am finding that my films, or the concepts I deal in my films have been an attempt to recreate those divine natural poetic elements on screen. The story is simple- the usual ‘boring’ existence of the main character Netra who we gradually come to learn as having mysteries that we cannot fathom. By telling this story I want to capture that piece of time and atmosphere which holds no particular fascination on the first glance, but on deeper probing, we find that this miniscule time event can hold a grand metaphysical connection that has a profound impact on our existence.
