Sauerbrunn - A farewell from paradise

“Memories are so hard to be translated into words. They are hard to be reshaped into another materiality. What are reminiscences made of? They are intangible and invisible. They are made out of the same materiality like dreams. They are volatile and fleeting. When I work as an artist with memories, with which medium am I working with? Is memory already a Medium on it’s own? Retrospections, they are stored in my body, like information on a hard drive. In images, in odours, in the form of emotions, or even sensations. Endlessly retrievable like information on a hard drive” [Navina Neverla 2016].

The experimental short film is part of an ongoing long-term research with the theme of memory and home. It has been shot on super8 Film in 2012 with the means by Academy of fine Arts Hamburg [HFBK] and was finished in 2015 with the support of art patron Carlos Garcia-Alix and his editorial Larga Marcha Arte y Ediciones Madrid, the work focuses thematically on the idea of a safe space, a paradise, with a strong focus on nature.

The second part of the Trilogy "Sauerbrunn" has been selected by AADK Spain and has been developed and presented to an audience in an open studio at Centro Negra [Space for Contemporary Creation and Research], Murcia, 2016. It was realized through a Crowdfunding Campaign. Its focus lies on memory and impermanence.

The current project focuses on ideas around nomadism and alienation. What happens when home cannot any longer defined through a specific place but is rather a concept that is transitory and fluctuant? What are the consequences that come along with a hybrid identity and a transitional concept of home?
