Charlene Bagcal is a multi-hyphenate creative. She began her early visual career as a painter, with her first exhibition at age 18. She later worked as a graphic designer before focusing her career on fashion photography and creative direction.
In 2012, she further extended her creative roster by making her directorial debut and accomplished a large array of achievements during her brief year as a filmmaker. Her fashion film, Solace for //SLANG (Colombia), ranked on the prestigious Fashion Film Network's top 10 film list alongside noted director, Nick Knight. Also that same year, her commissioned fashion film, Dreamland for DRESSLAB (Spain), was chosen as an Official Selection at the La Jolla Fashion Film Festival and included with films by Bruce Weber and Ellen Von Unwerth. Later that year, she also teamed with musician, Chelsea Wolfe (Sargent House), on Flatlands: A Converse x Decibel collaboration that marked her debut as a music video director. Flatlands had an exclusive behind the scenes feature with BULLETT magazine, in addition to being featured with NME, Beautiful/Decay, NYLON and The Work magazine. In more recent news, she was announced as a winner of SHOWstudio's (UK) Punk DIY fashion film competition for her fashion film, Slick. In 2015, her fashion film Another Day for DRESSLAB (Spain) was an Official Selection for Fashion Film Fest Istanbul. Her short film, "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes," is an Official Selection at Mercedes-Benz Bokeh International Fashion Film Festival for 2017.
Charlene's surrealist and emotional sensibility combine conceptual expression with a strong sense of human psychology and sensuality. Her characters often possess stoic behavior, challenging both their fragility and strength.
In 2015, she co-founded LA based production company, REMA. In 2016, she received a development deal from Producer, Astronauts Wanted, joint venture between former CEO of MTV Networks, Judy McGrath, and Sony Music, and platform, Blackpills (FR), for her thriller series, "The Un/Desirables."
