The Goners
Gosford sits on the outskirts of a major Australian city; a perfect cesspool of crime and lawlessness.
Michael Monaghan is a low rent thug who took something that doesn't belong to him.
With a psychotic hitman on his tail, he finds himself caught in the middle of a violent gang war.
Street level drug dealer and textbook sociopath Keith O'Grady drafts Michael to his side for a meet up with the rival gang, lead by the infamous Bad Finger.

Nathan Bender is an Australian film director, writer and producer focusing on the action film genre. Starting in the backyard like most filmmakers, Nathan began filming crude martial arts fight scenes. After failing to submit any material to television or film festivals he was urged by his peers to study film and gain a deeper technical understanding of the film making process. In 2012 Nathan was accepted into the SAE Institute to study a Bachelor in Film Production. It wasn't long before he began incorporating the skills he had learned in the backyard into his new films. Specialising in the action genre his films always have the influence of action filmmakers Robert Rodriguez, John Woo and Jackie Chan.
The Goners was a collaborative project between myself, Mason Grady and Renee Giles; the three of us had been eager to attempt a film on a larger scale than any previous project we had done, we wanted to create a project that would be the ultimate learning experience for ourselves.
The Goners was a massive undertaking, with 31 cast, 18 locations, 6 vehicles, numerous practical effects and a runtime of near 50 minutes; all this coupled with the intention of producing the entire thing for a budget of $1000, the film was definitely challenging, but it was immensely rewarding and an invaluable learning experience.
Due to the nature of the film, the small budget and the lack of time available at many locations the film had to rely heavily on visual effects, in total their are 367 VFX shots in the film, these range from blood hits, to head removals, back ground replacements, set extensions and alterations, CGI insects, gunfire, explosions, and many more.
I am deeply gratefully for all the actors who gave their time and turned in some fantastic performances for the film.
I would also like to dedicate the film to an actor and friend of ours Kevin Blakey, who past away shortly into the making of the film, he was a legend to us and is missed.
To sum up, The Goners is an action crime film, that to us is an homage to old ozploitation films. It was a learning experience that had its fair share of problems and difficulties but was an incredibly rewarding experience, that has given us the passion and desire to go bigger, crazier and have a lot more action.
We enjoyed making The Goners and hope people enjoy watching it!
