Director Biography - Kiesha 'KSsense' Sadler

Kiesha ‘KSsense’ Sadler is a spoken word artist, poet and self-published author who resides in birmingham, UK. Her work is inspired by personal experiences and the inequalities that shape contemporary society. Her motivation is to embody the journeys of womankind and communicate them with the world. KSsense is a part of the LGBT community, her mission is to empower those that feel voice less and inferior. She embraces her quirks and curves and shares her art as a powerful tool to represent that there’s a place for everyone in society.

KSsense's spoken word is filled with passion, charisma and thought-provoking feeling, which is also reflected with her presence on stage and film. Her influences resonate strongly with the genres of hip hop and neo soul. KSsense uses her self- expression as a way to create conversations on subjects’ people often find as taboo. KSsense has performed in many venues over the UK and internationally from USA including Atlanta, North Carolina, Washington DC to Nepal.

In 2019, KSsense turned her love for spoken word into film. She restlessly reached out to videographers for support to put her work into film however, her efforts failed. In consequence, KSsense took it upon herself to self-teach filming and editing and started directing her vision of turning poetry/spoken word into visual art. Within a year KSsense learnt skills and techniques to turn her self-published book ‘A Woman Undressed’ In to 5 stand-alone spoken word short films. The films covered issues on date rape, FGM (Female Genital Mutilation), anxiety and depression and empowering the black woman also, 90’s R&B parody to show tribute to music she grew up with. Each film serves a different message.

Director Statement

My intentions with my films are to create awareness and conversations. To initiate a space for people to walk away and think, research, feel and/or even be present, whether laughter or sadness I hope that my work resonates something that is relatable.
