Hilaria lives and works at the house of Luciana as a housemaid since forty years ago. Luciana films Hilaria in a constant dialogue between both. The film portrays a relationship of a social and cultural distance that almost brakes thanks to the existing love between a daughter and an artificial mother.

Director Statement

The whole shooting of “Nana” has been made on my own with a handheld camera. I started filming home videos with Hilaria without further intention. Later on, I decided to make a film about her continuing with this way of filming, because I consider it the only way of portraying our intimate relationship. The structure of the film has been constructed during the process of making it. A lot of people of the middle class have been living with housemaids very closely and this uneven situation has become normal in our society. The images I made of Hilaria show the physical, social and cultural distance between us, and through the lens, I have had a new look of her and me and everything that has to do with “her” and “me”.
In addition to making a social criticism I intend to portray her with love.
