Director Biography - Baba Hillman

Baba Hillman grew up in Japan, Venezuela and Panama. Her films and performance works explore transience, perception, migration and memory through disparate cinematic and performative languages, operating at the intersection of these languages where they remain in tension, negotiation, translation and retranslation. The films have screened at festivals and museums including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, Rencontres Paris/Berlin, Ann Arbor Film Festival, Anthology Film Archives, Cinéma Jeune Collectif, ICAIC Havana, MIX Brazil, Athens Film Festival and European Media Art Festival, Osnabruck. She has received awards and grants for her work from the French Ministry of Culture, the Whiting Foundation, the California Arts Council, the Maryland Arts Council and the Italian city governments of Florence, Lecce and Certaldo.
