Experiencing Interruptions?

Interview with a Piano

An old piano reaches the end of its life - and rather than let it simply be thrown out we decide to interview it just days before it gets cast into oblivion; the scrap heap.

Interview with a Piano is the first of a series of planned experimental shorts from McKay, Neuman and Thomason. By Interviewing inanimate man made objects, at the end of their 'useful' lives, the trio seek to give a lasting voice to these often beautiful, expressive and emotive objects.

Director Statement

"Interview with...." is a concept devised by film making trio Daniel Thomason (music & sound), Luke Neuman (photography) and Tom McKay (writer).

In this planned series of short films the trio looks to explore the film poem genre by focusing on inanimate man made objects, deemed to be at the end of their "useful" lives.

By working individually, in their own area of expertise and respective medium, Thomason, Neuman & McKay are granted complete artistic freedom to explore the chosen subject matter. The films are generated organically with a fusion sound, image and written word. The unpredictable and random element to this creative process is very important to all three contributors and is a core premise for the "Interview with..." series.
