Blank Girl
Blank Girl
Only a face
of a woman
The face of cinema
Only a surface
Shimmers in the dark
Shadows of the night
We are calling to you
Come, and haunt us.

Alain Tjiong (The Netherlands, 1991) has just graduated with a Master of the Audiovisual Arts (film) degree from the School of Arts (KASK) in Ghent, Belgium. His films are first and foremost a means of personal expression, a way to communicate his feelings and his thoughts with a audience. While still operating in the field of narrative fiction, he is always searching for the bounderies of narrative cinema and trying to rediscover its (lost) relevance.
A film is like a river, an endless stream of thought and feeling. It can take you anywhere anytime. By operating on the borders of narrative fiction I am trying to grasp this concept that is designed around a central theme: A cinema of desires that is expressed in its most romantic form - the formation of the romantic couple which is the essence of (the old) Hollywoodcinema. The whole world of the film is infected with the desire for romance. Is this ideal within our reach or just an illusion? A blank surface where our desires are projected back at us. The face of cinema.
