The Street Where We Live
"I'm just two paychecks away from being on the street." In the aftermath of the nation's financial crisis, Mary, a single mom with two kids, finds herself faced with that exact situation when the factory where she works closes their doors for good. Providing for her children and keeping the family together, while also maintaining some form of dignity in the process, proves to be the hardest job that Mary will ever have.

Originally from Dayton, Ohio, John has been at the helm of music videos, commercials, short and feature films. He has directed the short films, Eroded, Measured Sacrifice, A Family Matter, and The Mission. Two of his films, “A Passion for Filmmaking” and “The Fixer”, aired on the Independent Film Channel as part of their original series, IFC Media Lab.
"The Street Where We Live" is an example of what a group of talented actors and production people can do if they believe in the same thing, making socially conscious cinema.
Two and a half years ago when I was talking with Producers Dino Tripodis and Phil Garrett about the possibility of making another film together, we landed on wanting to tell a simple story about a family who gets caught up in the economic downturn of our country. A story of living on the edge and the inability to pull themselves out of the abyss.
The success of this film rests squarely on the shoulders of the all volunteer cast and crew. My promise to them before they signed on was that I would treat them with respect and I wouldn't abuse them by working them 16 hours a day, which if you have been on an indie film set, 16 hours is not unusual.
We set out to execute a 96 page script, shooting only one weekend a month for 9 months. This is not a suggested way of producing a film, but because of our "No Budget" approach, it was necessary. After we wrapped, my friends were still my friends, and in the end, we produced something we can be proud of, a feature film that makes an audience think and feel. All while not going over 12 hours on any given production day.
