Rachel Hughes is a Director & Animator from Wilmington, North Carolina and a recent graduate from the Savannah College of Art & Design. Her previous experience includes working in a team and as a director for SCAD’s Rising Star & Summer Seminar Programs, designing user interface displays for BMW, and animating on several short films, such as “The Boy & the Bruja” by Abby Davies. She is an activist and aims to use her creative and directing skills to promote environmental protection and human rights.
“When our faculty advisor, John Webber, first came to me about the possibility of creating this film, I was immediately interested because of its focus on environmental protection and restoration. It wasn’t long before Webber and I began assembling our team of animators, motion media designers, and illustrators. We feel that the success of our film lies in our team of artists, each one offering unique and pertinent skills. Everyone was passionate about the work we were creating and eager to help make a difference.
By far, the biggest challenge of our project was working within the time constraint. Excluding the time we spent in pre-production, we essentially had 7 weeks to complete a 4-minute film. While the work load was heavy, it helped each of us grow in our abilities as artists. I feel incredibly honored to have worked with such a fun-loving and dedicated team of artists.”
