Diane Busuttil – Writer / Director
Diane Busuttil Graduated from the University of Western Sydney with a Bachelor of Arts degree in dance, specializing in dance on film. She has since worked internationally as an independent artist, collaborating with a diverse range of artistic groups in the capacity of dancer, acrobat, teacher, choreographer, producer and director.
In 1994 her first dance film Sacred Expression premiered in Melbourne at the Greenmill Dance Festival where she presented a public talk titled ‘Self-funded creations’. Her film went on to screen at various dance festivals across Australia and at The United Nations 4th World Conference on Women, Beijing, China.
In her younger years, she was a circus performer and tap dancer in Australia before re-locating to Berlin, Germany where she toured internationally with Constanza Macras/Dorky Park dance company among other theatre and dance directors.
In 2000 she received a scholarship from the DAAD (Germany Academic Exchange) to study ‘Body’ at the International Women’s University in Germany and was an artist mentor for DAAD Australia for three years. This study period fueled her desire to work with women, their bodies, their desires and their stories.
Her previous shorts films have screened in over twenty International Film Festivals. Busuttil’s short film “Dirt and Desire” was Nominated for “preis der freunde der nationalegalerie für junge künst”and won the audience choice award at KurzFilmFunk Berlin. Super Power was voted ‘best of the fest’ by GO Magazine, NYC. In 2014, her previous short film, Fresh Fruit, combining dance and physical narrative was the recipient of a Taste Award in LA, Hollywood and her short dance film 'Curdled' was nominated for an Australian Dance Award in Best New Media.
