Director Biography - Mariam Jobrani, Kenny Krauss

Mariam Jobrani has over 15 years of experience as a producer on a variety of television programs, from PBS documentaries to network reality shows. Her career began at Pacem Productions, working with Eugene Shirley on Beyond Wall Street and Educating Anner for PBS. Since 2001, she has been a Story Producer and Supervising Producer for a variety of reality shows on CBS, ABC, FOX, MTV, UPN, A&E, TLC and Lifetime. In 2001, Mariam directed and produced With Us or Against Us, a documentary short about Afghans in America post 9/11. With Us or Against Us aired on KQED and has been distributed educationally to libraries and universities across the United States. Having emigrated from Iran in 1979, due to the Iranian Revolution, Mariam's interest in world cultures and especially the roles women play in them, has been a life long interest. This was the inspiration for Sundance award winner, The Fighting Cholitas, a documentary short about indigenous, Bolivian, female wrestlers.

Kenny Krauss discovered his love of photography at 9, when he developed his first black and white prints. Growing up, he was an avid still photographer, until he began pursuing cinematography at Hampshire College, where he studied Film. While at Hampshire, Kenny shot and directed numerous, experimental films. After receiving his Masters from the San Francisco Art Institute, Kenny started his own black and white 16mm/Super 8 film lab, while continuing to work on commercials, features and music videos. Over the last 15 years, Kenny has shot a variety of documentary and reality shows for ABC, PBS, CBS, NBC, FOX, A&E, E!, Discovery, TLC and UPN,. He’s worked on shows like: Flipping Vegas, Big Brother, Dr 90210, Hell’s Kitchen and Amish In The City. Kenny loves working on a variety of programs, but it is compelling stories that show how people face the challenges of everyday life that keeps bringing him back to documentaries.
