The Play Within: An LGBTQ Documentary (Staging First)
This documentary film follows the adaptation of the fictional short film, "The Play Within", through a live stage performance ..., followed by a talkback and expert interviews regarding the topics presented by the play. In "The Play Within" we see a fictional meeting between two young men, Tyler Clementi and Matthew Shepard, in a heaven-like location ... illustrating the ongoing issues facing the LGBTQ community.
The work is well suited to teaching theater craft and stimulating the discussion of the ongoing problems faced by LGBTQ individuals of all ages. The scene is adapted from the award-winning feature length film, "Impossible Choice".
