Mademoiselle Marie
1955 in Germany. The economic miracle brings employment, wealth and a new attitude towards life. The young people are dancing to Rock'n'Roll, girls are wearing backless dresses and the boys comb their hair into pompadours, emulating Elvis Presley. But the aftermath of war weighs heavily on all social classes.
Marie, a young, confident farmwife, struggles on her farm, while her husband still is a prisoner of war in Russia. The former French POW François, who has been committed as a forced laborer on her farm and was hidden from the SS on her hayloft during the last days of war, comes back to support Marie.
Despite all reservations, the two fall in love. Their relationship is put to a hard test when François takes Marie to his parents in France. There they are met with widespread disapproval, because in the nearby Oradour-sur-Glane the armed SS has extinguished a whole village with its 642 inhabitants. Just one old man pleads for forgiveness and reconciliation – Robert Hébras, who has survived the massacre.
After Adenauers negotiations with Chruschtschow regarding the last remaining German POWs, Maries husband, Hans, returns. But in the many years a lot has changed.
At the end of the film the real Robért Hebras guides through the ruins of Oradour, which in today's France are considered a symbol for the SS's atrocities.
