Pierre Andre Simmons
Pierre Andre Simmons' life is filled with so much more than the overflowing shopping carts and garbage cans most people associate with New York City can and bottle collectors. Pierre chooses the grueling work of collecting cans and bottles each day, plays the piano by night, and knows what he values more than anything else: freedom. He's an educated man fully capable of a "regular" job, but his values have led him down an unusual path. With an original score composed by Pierre himself, PIERRE ANDRE SIMMONS begs the question: To what lengths are you willing to go for freedom?

Jenny Groza is a documentary filmmaker and audio producer. Particularly interested in the policies around New York City canners, she set out to make a documentary exploring the real life effects of a possible ban on canning in New York City. Along the way, she met and formed a friendship with Pierre Andre Simmons, and decided to make a documentary with him about his everyday fight for independence. Like Pierre, Jenny values personal freedom above all else.
