Director Biography - Carlos Hurtado

Carlos graduated from Loyola Marymount University Film School. During his time in film school, he was awarded a Kodak Grant for a short film and was nominated for a Student Academy Award/Oscar for another short film that was also broadcasted on television for 10 years on KCET. Carlos also worked at DreamWorks SKG Studios during his tenure at film school.

Carlos was selected in 2014 as One of the Top 200 directors for the HBO show "Project Greenlight" [from executive producers Ben Affleck & Matt Damon]. His most recent short documentary film that he directed, "Hollygrove" officially qualified for consideration at the 87th Academy Awards. "Hollygrove" will be part of the Cannes Film Festival 2015 [Court Metrage Corner], where he was also chosen as 1 of 22 Finalists by The American Pavilion as part of Cannes Emerging Filmmakers Showcase 2015 representing the Next Generation of Filmmakers presented by American Express, where he won the prestigious award for the emerging filmmaker's best short documentary.

His filmmaking career has amassed over 110 Nominations from International & National film festivals. He's won 47 Awards in just three years since his return to film after taking a nine- year absence to manage the family business. His previous and current work have been seen at the Austin Film Festival [Award Award accredited festival], British Broadcasting Corporation Music Video Festival, UCLA Shortakes [Winner: Best of Show], at the prestigious European festival - Sehüchte International Film Festival [Winner: Producer 1st prize]. Most recently he was nominated at the Rhode Island International Film Festival & Los Angeles Short Film Festival -- which are both Academy Award accredited festivals. He was also nominated at Cinequest Film Festival 2015, which was recently voted as the Best Film Festival by USA TODAY.

Carlos has directed several projects that have helped him expand his portfolio in all areas and fine-tune his creative visual style. His motivation behind all his projects and gained experience is to accomplish his ultimate goal of directing his debut feature film in his native country, Mexico.
