Director Statement

Gun violence in the U.S., one of the big social issues of our time could inspire a great many stories in many directions. But ultimately violence is not about statistics or politics. It is personal. So for this 12 minute film, we wanted to tell a personal story - about a young couple with so much potential to live, who find themselves pulled into an ever deepening nightmare.

Filming took place during six days in a small town in North Carolina. And that in itself proved challenging. Though we were not warmly welcomed by town officials, we did receive generous assistance from many local businesses who provided us with some vital locations. Producer, Mark Woods was intrepid in his pursuit of locations. There was one moment when Mark got a call back from the owner of the most important location for the film. I could tell it was going to be a long conversation so I went to get something to eat. When I came back 45 minutes later, Mark was still on the phone. The guy had already told him “no” three times. In the end he agreed to meet with us and ultimately gave us the location because he believed in our story.

The essential point of 3 MINUTES is that more and more weapons will not save us.
