Director Statement

Starla is a film criticism about the absurdity of the conspiracy behind the contemporary music industry as a cult and the never ending focus of symbolism it has come to represent.

The lawyer in the film represents the record industry and it's grasp on economic revenues of its roster of artists.

The singer in the film is known by her stage name, Starla, who was a sensation in her past life. Her real name, Marabeth Davis, is on the contract agreement to close all her assets to the company.

The film displays the lawyers attempt to sign the rights using her real name but finds out that she has joined a cult, or has she? Is it her cult following that is keeping her safe or is her circle of friends actually past lawyers that attempted to get her signature? The answer is in the viewers hands.

Sidenote: This film was made in 48-hours for the Winnipeg Film Group's 48 Hour Film Contest in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
