Chiaroscuro

“Chiaroscuro” follows Abel, who is turning 30, single and worried about his snoring problem. Through video recordings of his own sleep patterns, he unexpectedly discovers a visitor - a mysterious woman who creeps into his bed once the lights are out. Abel finds comfort in her presence and desperately clings to the possibility of her return.

Director Biography - Amy Bourgaize

Amy Bourgaize is a high school teacher and filmmaker living in Fredericton, New Brunswick. She has a Master of Education degree in Critical Studies and engages in critical film pedagogy in her classroom. Amy has produced over 20 student films as a lead teacher in Anglophone School District West’s What’s Up Doc? film program. This project uses participatory video to enable students to explore social issues in their lives through documentary filmmaking. Two of these films, "Mawi" and “Pocket Change”, have screened at the Silver Wave Film Festival. She has taken on many film roles, including assistant director on Jon Dewar’s “Hypothermia”, which screened at a number of festivals across the continent. Amy has worked on five Fredericton 48 Hour Film Competition projects and was recipient of Best Director and Best Editor at the 2014 annual event. Other roles that Amy has taken on are script supervisor, sound, lighting, and art direction. She is also involved in Matt Rogers’ documentary, “Reclaiming the Space”. Most recently, Amy worked in the Art Department on Matt Rogers' "a list" and she is also credited with Slate and a supporting acting role in Jon Dewar's "The Beautifully Drowned". Amy enjoys all elements of filmmaking and loves to explore her creativity in areas outside of the classroom. "Chiaroscuro" is her first film as a director.
