Director Statement

'Lady Crimson' is a neo-noir action thriller with fairy-tale elements. The story takes characters from classic fables and drops them in the modern setting of a world of possession, betrayal, and violence. The three main characters of the story are BLUEBEARD, WOLF and AMBER. Bluebeard is the embodiment of his namesake from the classic French folktale of the very wealthy nobleman who was in the habit of murdering his wives. Wolf obviously refers to the Big Bad Wolf that terrorized unsuspecting girls and three little pigs. And lastly, Amber represents the 'red-themed' women in those fables, such as Little Red Riding Hood and Rose Red, but with the added characteristic that the men she sleeps with cannot thereafter kill her.
In keeping with the fairy-tale element, these three characters are also represented in this setting by their individual colour. Bluebeard is surrounded by the colour blue, Wolf dresses himself in grey and black, and Amber is fond of wearing a long red jacket. Colour in fact plays a very big role in the design and aesthetics of this film, and bold red will be prominently featured in many of the story’s key settings and scenes. Being a fable at heart, the overall colour design of the film will need to be emphasized, as it will need to portray a heightened sense of reality.
