Root of I is a documentary on sustainable development with a reference to recent case of Tiruvannamalai, where a development project of widening girivalam path failed due to its unsustainable nature, harming environment and society, by felling tress and generating a wide spread protest. The documentary reveals that much problem of present development projects , starts from the faulty development thinking , where quick fix economic growth was encouraged comprising environment and society and fails to sustain. We need to make a new development thinking and make new choice in order to balance economic priorities with environment and society.

Sri Joydip is one of the most innovative filmmaker from Bengal , whose range of subjects are varied and diversified . His debut short film was based on search for True mother entitled Bandematram 2010 , inspired from Bankim’s Anandamath , which got screened in Kolkata International Film Festival 2010. Later he started making a series of film in Yoga and spirituality which covered topics from Ribhu Gita to Shiva Sutra and how Yoga could be a Medicine. On this “Yoga as Medicine “ was critically acclaimed and got selected for Kolkata International Film Festival 2013. His recent film “Root of I” is exploration on the development thinking which is creating environmental and societal problem , with a case study of green movement in Tiruvannamalai.
I loved making films which are innovative and meaningful and I always put innovation over craft . Root of I is an exploration of spirituality and environment which gives a critical look on our development thinking. It is again a movie where innovation was given more importance then craft.
