Revisiting the Dubhs Ridge
Two friends sail to the island of Skye in order to revisit the location of mountaineering adventures of their youth. Although they have years of exploring wild places, on this trip they need help to overcome a greater challenge than anything the sea or mountains can throw at them.

Howard Steen, a retired UK national living near Frankfurt, Germany trained as an engineer and pursued a full-time technical career in consumer product development. Early retirement gave the opportunity to try film making and resulted in a first, award winning documentary about friendship and keeping the spirit of adventure alive in the face of adversity.
Guus Floor studied Film and Animation at the Rhode Island School of Design. He worked in lights and cameras on many cinematic endeavors in Los Angeles for 10 years, before switching to a career in illustration and comics. “Revisiting the Dubhs Ridge” is the first film he has directed since college. Originally from the Netherlands, he has lived in the US, Japan, Italy and currently resides in Germany, with his wife, 2 kids and a dog.
Howard Steen: I started this project wanting to show both the beauty of a wild area which I keep going back to and to give an insight into a special friendship born out a shared passion for mountaineering.
Armed only with a strong interest in still photography I embarked on this project and quickly discovered that film making, just like product development, is an intensely collaborative activity. A key challenge in this film has been the story telling. I hope we succeeded as a team to make one of the key themes of this film, ‘friends supporting friends’ resonate among a broad audience.
Guus Floor: My passion is to tell simple, visual and emotionally driven stories. As someone who usually works on fictional stories, working on a documentary such as this, presented new creative challenges and certainly brought me closer to my subject than ever before. I was drawn to “the Dubhs Ridge” project because of the beauty of the location, the courage of Roger and the powerful bond of friendship between him and Howard. It is my hope that we were able to convey the story of these two friends and involve the audience (if only for a short time) in their world. Thank you for watching!
