Revisiting the Dubhs Ridge

Two friends sail to the island of Skye in order to revisit the location of mountaineering adventures of their youth. Although they have years of exploring wild places, on this trip they need help to overcome a greater challenge than anything the sea or mountains can throw at them.

Director Statement

Howard Steen: I started this project wanting to show both the beauty of a wild area which I keep going back to and to give an insight into a special friendship born out a shared passion for mountaineering.
Armed only with a strong interest in still photography I embarked on this project and quickly discovered that film making, just like product development, is an intensely collaborative activity. A key challenge in this film has been the story telling. I hope we succeeded as a team to make one of the key themes of this film, ‘friends supporting friends’ resonate among a broad audience.

Guus Floor: My passion is to tell simple, visual and emotionally driven stories. As someone who usually works on fictional stories, working on a documentary such as this, presented new creative challenges and certainly brought me closer to my subject than ever before. I was drawn to “the Dubhs Ridge” project because of the beauty of the location, the courage of Roger and the powerful bond of friendship between him and Howard. It is my hope that we were able to convey the story of these two friends and involve the audience (if only for a short time) in their world. Thank you for watching!
