Mirror Mirror

For Mirror Mirror, I was asked by the artist Linder to create a ‘social collage’ of the performances choreographed in response to her work installed at Inverleith House in Edinburgh for British Art Show 8. Diagrams of Love: Marriage of Eyes is a gun-tufted wool rug backed with gold lame, produced in collaboration with Dovecot Studios, Edinburgh. Described by Linder as a shape-shifting ‘21st-century version of a magic carpet,’ the rug is cut in a spiral form, and references meditative labyrinths, Barbara Hepworth’s sculptures and surrealist artist Ithell Colquhoun’s notion of automatism, or the ‘mantic stain’. Linder asked me to begin with the word lilac as inspiration.

Director Statement

As a filmmaker I collaborate with artists, musicians, choreographers, poets and theatre makers in a number of ways. My own films usually have music or choreography at their heart and I often create films as part of larger collaborative projects. My work has been broadcast and screened at festivals and in galleries across Europe and the USA, including international film festivals in Cannes, Naples, and Zurich
