Director Statement

Balinese life is suffused with a sense of community, spirit and art. Beyond the tourist attractions lies a profound connection to nature, ancestors and extended family that expresses itself through rituals and art. The Balinese believe that if you make things beautiful, the gods will come visit, so every offering and ceremony is exquisite. Studying the arts of wayan kulit shadow puppets and legong dance allowed me to attend ceremonies often. As a filmmaker, I couldn’t resist recording these images and sounds to create an impression of the heart of Bali.
