Food City: Feast Of The Five Boroughs
In the not-too-distant past, all food was local. Hyper-local, in fact: if you didn’t grow it or find it yourself, you didn’t eat it. Today our food is hyper-global: wherever you are, you can get your food from any corner of the world. What might a return to hyper-localism look like today, now that more than half the world’s population live in cities? In Food City, the filmmakers, Matt and Lars endeavor to find out by challenging themselves to serve a four-course meal for eight people - using only ingredients grown, caught, or foraged from within the five boroughs of New York City.

Matthew & Lars met at a Master's program at the City College of New York in 2011.
Matthew had a strong interest in filmmaking from an early age, leading him to work as an editor at a New York City production company and subsequently as an instructor of editing and postproduction supervisor at the New York Film Academy in New York, Paris, and Abu Dhabi. In May 2013 Matthew graduated from the City College of New York with a Master of Fine Arts degree in Media Arts Production, and has seen his thesis film screen at several regional festivals. When not immersed in filmmaking Matthew is an avid supporter of sustainable agriculture and has volunteered on several farms in upstate New York.
Lars came from Denmark to the United States as an infant in the ’60’s, and has made New York City his home ever since. Before focusing on directing, he amassed over twenty years’ experience as a film and television editor, much of it in Europe and Asia. Notable credits include the feature documentary New York Street Games, which he co-wrote, the six-part series for ESPN Guide House: Montauk, for which he also served as Story Editor, the home design show While You Were Out, for which Lars was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award. His own short documentary, "i live In Life" has won several Best Short Documentary prizes at festivals, and also Best Director at the 2016 Blackbird Film Festival.
