SYNDESIS

Although Samuel Rathjen is only 23 his small body of filmic work [HOLOS (2013), THIS IS ALL YOURS (2015), SYNDESIS (2016), KINTSUGI (2016)] already displays a resoluteness in vision which is unusual for someone of his young age to achieve, let alone during his university years. What's more, he has employed this particular style over a diverse range of film forms - exhibition///documentary///experimental - with each different iteration being a success.

As well as being a filmmaker, he is also a musician and a writer. His musical output is equally as distinct as his filmic and his writings centre around our individual and societal relationships with music, film and television. It is no surprise, then, that in 2016 he graduated with a First Class Honours degree in Film: Theory and Production from the University of East London.

Through his short, yet ambitious catalogue of films it is clear for all to see that Samuel Rathjen means business as much as he means art, even if thats all we can ever gleam from his work.
