Jay’s numerous low-budget Independent short and student films have played at various film festivals across North America and most recently in Germany. This Woods Cree/Métis was a child stage performer and ex-film projectionist who is now an indie filmmaker and actor who got the amazing opportunity to work with Alejandro González Iñárritu, Emmanuel “Chivo” Lubezki and Duane Howard in The Revenant. For the past decade he’s worn several hats in the Vancouver film industry including filming as a private statement gatherer for the better part of 5 years with the Truth & Reconciliation Commission. He’s a proud Father of three beautiful children who are often part of his films and a graduate of the Indigenous Film Program & Cinematography at Capilano University. Currently he’s working with the National Film Board on a short documentary he wrote and is directing.
Hickey Gone Wrong couldn’t have gone more right. With an amazing cast and crew on board and the tremendous generosity and support of the community I found myself along for the ride of a lifetime, like a bush cruise on the back of a Wood Buffalo. A truly humbling experience, I’m very proud of the family affair it was and am excited for audiences to share a glimpse of the beautiful north and the remarkable talent it holds. So sit back with boogoo and buffalo chips and enjoy because you know what they say about Fort Smith, you never know what’s gonna happen next; just don’t leave the theatre with a hickey or you could be grounded.
