Veljko Vidak is a croatian filmmaker and visual artist, graduated from the Academy of fine Arts of Zagreb and from Master Program of International Film School in Paris.
When he arrived in Paris at La Cité des Arts, he discovered master pieces of paintings which he was using to admire in his art books in Croatia. Fascinated by the cultural life of Paris and filled with wonder at its streets, he decided to establish permanently in France. After years of hard work dedicated to his art, Veljko Vidak made a name of himself and his exhibitions started to travel from New-York to Shanghai. With big figuratives canvas, Veljko Vidak tells the story of war in Croatia, borders and lost countries.
In 2010, he moved to Berlin, so as to collaborate with collective of artists, and confronted his work to other medium. From the Berliner experience, he returned with video works dealing with subconsciousness and history. In 2012, he entered a double master in direction in Paris and started to shoot his first short movies.
His films deal with atmosphere and solitary characters who go through deep questioning about identity, memories and being a stranger.
Veljko Vidak's background as a painter becomes visible in his films; he rythmes the screen with colors and composition.
The organic composition of the shots and the deliberate blur about time and space create the emotional tension. The viewer immerses him/herself in the heart of the experience of the main character.
