Dave Moyle is a writer, director, director of photography and editor. He was born in London in 1983 and has lived in various countries since. He has worked mainly in short films to date, but moved into feature films in 2011 with the role of Director of Photography in the feature film Spiritual Contact. 2012 saw him working in the art and production design department of the latest film in the Green Street Hooligans franchise, titled Green Street 3 directed by James Nunn. Whilst working on his debut directorial feature in 2014, Dave met actor and writer Mark Row and together with technical wizard Tim Macdonald they began work on 'Eidolon'.
Whilst I sit here with a brand new short film, starring some of Europe's most promising and up-and-coming talent, I am touched by sadness. We lost a soldier recently in the form of the very talented actor Aaron Eaton who, as well as Eidolon, had roles in AWOL - Absent Without Love (Dir. Fredi Nwaka) and Brotherhood (Dir. Noel Clarke) - He was someone I cast personally for this film as I knew, as soon as I saw him on the big screen at the AWOL premiere in the West End, that this guy had a real presence. He's a big loss to the film world, but more importantly to his partner Sabrina (who was our behind the scenes photographer - a very talented lady herself) and their children who I know love him and miss him very much.
Eidolon (Eye-Doh-Lon) is a supernatural revenge film. Set in modern day London, it's story is simple. Neil, our anti-hero, is viciously attacked and murdered by two low life criminals. Choosing his own brand of redemption, Neil goes after the pair and enacts his vengeance on all who stand in his way.
The film falls more into the Thriller category than Horror.
We were so lucky in the casting process:
Ella Dvornik - daughter of Dino Dvornik, Croatia's 'Godfather of Funk' - starred in 'The Dvorniks' an MTV reality show much to the similarity of The Osbournes. This kind of following really helped us gain momentum when it came to funding and gaining support on such a minimal budget.
Next to come on board was former Pro Boxer Colin 'Burt' Vidler. I've known Burt for a good few years now and having worked with him previously, he didn't need too much convincing once he'd read the script.
In a roundabout way, through Burt I met Aaron who both starred in AWOL together. Aaron loved the premise of the film and the role, we were delighted he came on board.
UK Grime rapper K2 World who recently released a single with Tinchy Stryder, which features in the film, then followed suit and came on board.
With Mark Row (Co-producer / Writer) also taking the role of Neil I was suitably confident that we had a great cast.
There was one small role to fill, however the endlessly experienced Chris Wilson (Harry Potter Series, Nativity 3, The Sweeney) was keen on continuing our Director / 1st AD relationship. But with all that acting experience, it made sense for him to take the role of 'Angelika's Dad' a small, yet vital character.
Although there are many credits on this film, and I'm not discrediting a single one, as all of their contributions were so very needed and valuable; we made the film with a core team of myself, Mark and Tim, and a virtually non existent budget. We've overcome many bumps and hurdles along the way, but here we are today with a film that we are very proud of and would like the world to see.
We hope that your festival can be part of that; and with such a well known and well followed cast (Ella alone has over 260,000 followers on Facebook) we're confident your festival can be the right place to screen the film and expect a good following - so the advice I'm giving is simple...
Follow Eidolon before Eidolon follows You!!!
