Experiencing Interruptions?

Striving for the Extraordinary

Told primarily through the voices of students and mentors,“Striving for the Extraordinary” tells the story of how a community college responded to the national problem of black male achievement by developing and successfully implementing the Diverse Male Student Initiatives. The documentary focuses on the educational challenges of young men of color and the institution's solution for helping them enter, persist and successfully complete college. The film provides an up-close and inside look at students sharing their feelings and speaking their truth about the real struggles they face going to college and how one unconventional educator's motivational approach to mentoring is helping them transition into their manhood and complete their education.
