An old woman discovers a magical tree that blooms loaves of bread which she sells to the townsfolk, unleashing a story of envy and avarice in the small community.

Director Biography - Miguel Valdez-Lopez

ENGLISH
Miguel Valdez-Lopez (Monterrey, Mexico) has been a taxi-driver, a hospital employee, a web portal manager and a rabid enthusiast of the +200 street markets and flea-markets in his hometown that helped him grow his Star Wars collection.
He currently works at IMAGYX Entertainment, where he co-wrote the rom-com feature RECUPERANDO A MI EX (2018). He directed the short film EL ÁRBOL (IMCINE, 2020) after winning a PECDA (2016) and and Iberex / SGAE (2017) grant. He's a finalist at GIFF's National Screenplay Contest for his screenplays CAMPEÓN (short 2017) and PERDEDOR (feature 2016). He co-wrote Televisa's tv thrillers LOGIN_ (2016), LOGOUT_ (2015) and CUENTA PENDIENTE (2014), a total of 45 different episodes on national tv. He began his writing career on Syfy Channel's steampunk series RIESE: KINGDOM FALLING (NBC-Universal, 2010). He likes Dr. Pepper. A lot.

Tras convertirse en becario del XV Curso de Desarrollo de Proyectos Cinematográficos Iberoamericanos (Iberex SGAE, 2017) y del PECDA (2016), dirigió el cortometraje EL ÁRBOL (IMCINE, 2020). Finalista del Concurso Nacional de Guión (GIFF) por CAMPEÓN (corto 2017) y PERDEDOR (largo 2016), co-escribió las series de Televisa LOGIN_ (2016), LOGOUT_ (2015) y CUENTA PENDIENTE (2014), con un total de 45 episodios en televisión nacional. Su primer colaboración como guionista fue la serie steampunk RIESE: KINGDOM FALLING (2010) de SyFy Channel (NBC-Universal). Le gusta el Dr. Pepper. Mucho.

Through a little bit of fantasy, the short film El árbol (The Tree) is a microcosm, a brief look into what happens when a community lets avarice and greed endanger the existence of something that could be good for everyone.
