Giorgos Evangelou was born and raised in Limassol, Cyprus. He studied filmmaking at the University of Surrey in the UK, where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing and Film Studies. Since 2014, he has been one of the main directors of Greek TV's BROUSKO. Catch is his latest film.
In 1974 Turkish invasion forces captured one third of Cyprus. The fate of 1619 people still remains unknown. My idea for creating "Catch" derived from these events, and inspired me to write a story about a boy whose hope is the only thing keeping alive his missing father. Although we only see the father in a photograph, on the boy's desk, we still feel his presence throughout the film; the carvings of the father's initials on the tree, the house they live in still has his stuff laying around, the grandmother speaks as if he is still there and the list of tasks acts as the father's last words. As he walks frame left (to the past) for his last task, we follow him on his quest for closure and essentially that is what the film is about, family, hope, closure!
