Director Statement

In 1974 Turkish invasion forces captured one third of Cyprus. The fate of 1619 people still remains unknown. My idea for creating "Catch" derived from these events, and inspired me to write a story about a boy whose hope is the only thing keeping alive his missing father. Although we only see the father in a photograph, on the boy's desk, we still feel his presence throughout the film; the carvings of the father's initials on the tree, the house they live in still has his stuff laying around, the grandmother speaks as if he is still there and the list of tasks acts as the father's last words. As he walks frame left (to the past) for his last task, we follow him on his quest for closure and essentially that is what the film is about, family, hope, closure!
