Letters and telegrams

The harshness of the Great War, and the absurdity of any conflict of so vast impact told through the direct testimony of some great Italian and German writers, and through the most shameless fiction, as each time it requires when the dreadful madness of sense deprivation takes place. The trench warfare resulted in a brutal uprooting for those who, even if voluntarily, have participated to it, so much so that even a single word of comfort or the idea of the affectionate presence of loved ones turned out the vital need for soldiers forced not only to enemy fire, but also to the mud and bad weather of the seasons changing. In all that, the exchange of letters with the birthplace cities and countries has played a fundamental role.
