The Broken Ones

Andrea Kelly, a troubled and closed off young artist in her mid twenties is grappling with being placed by her overbearing mother Janet (Margaret Colin) in a sober living house in the suburbs of New Jersey, after a string of bad decisions, alcohol and drug abuse. One afternoon fate introduces her to an equally troubled young man attempting suicide by train. She takes it upon herself to show him the meaning of life through a course of events throughout the night. It isn’t until they end up in New York City that the night takes a turn for the worst and she is faced with darker demons then she was ready for.

The film is based off of a true story or a girl who lost her dad in 9/11 and has to revisit ten years later to the anniversary. The film was shot in NJ and NYC with an incredibly diverse cast and crew. Focusing on bringing women and diversity to the forefront. The film is directed by first time female director Elyse Niblett. The film was shot by African American Cinematographer Myron Parran who has worked alongside Tarantino among many other talented directors and DP’s in his career. The crew was comprised of at least 50 percent women, people of color and members of the LGBT community. The film has an original score composed by up and coming Kiley Norton, it is original and cutting edge and one of the stand out’s when walking away from watching the film.
