DHAGO The Thread
'Dhago' the uncanny supernatural tale of a husband struggling to let go of his dead wife, tied around the superstitious beliefs in Nepal.
In the incredibly beautiful setting of a small city of Sauraha in Nepal, amongst the working class struggle and the many cultural, spiritual beliefs of the region, comes this uncanny supernatural tale of ‘Dhago’ (aka, thread). A young man’s struggle to come to terms with the death of his wife and his refusal to grasp changed home and work life. As he escapes his problems with a young woman touring Sauraha and its nearby scenery, we begin to see the extent of his desperate hold on the memories.
The story looks at the connection of living to the dead, and the superstitions connected with it in this vulnerable and rich culture of Nepalese people.
Bir, a young Nepali tour guide in the city of Sauraha has been struggling to come to terms with the death of his wife. He is depressed and desperate to get away from everyone who knows about his loss. On a day when his mother presses him to seek the advice of priests, Bir storms off, his mind on other things, not on the strange happenings around him. As the day wears on, and Bir takes on the task of being a guide to a young woman on a tour of Sauraha, something seems amiss. Who is she? Where did she come from? And more importantly, there is something incredibly unsettling about the way she looks at him. Or is Bir simply losing his mind?
