Crawdad Bulgar

Out in a clearing, a Jewish Mama spies an extremely large dust clump on the floor of her quaint vintage trailer! Mama proceeds to wander haplessly, looking for the electrical outlet, and when she finally plugs in her 1930s hoover vacuum cleaner, a magical world of music and revelry transpires! Mama can't help but join in the raucous revelry of Leeav Sofer and his Mostly Kosher band!

From the Band - my inspiration:

Taken from the history of American Southern folksong, the first melody you hear, "Crawdad Hole", had accompanied the 'play parties' of the 19th century. These play parties were a gathering of dance and song intended to bypass the strict religious practices of the time banning dancing and playing of musical instruments. This jump-rope and playground inspired tune quickly segues into the flavor of Eastern European Jewish culture. The violin merges the Crawdad melody with the tune of Reb Dovidl, a 19th century Yiddish folksong telling the story of a famous Rabbi scholar and his bits of wisdom. Both melodies inspire energy and dance as Mostly Kosher blends the cultures into one.

MOSTLY KOSHER bio:

Mostly Kosher, the acclaimed Jewish cultural revival band, radically reconstructs Judaic and American cultural musical roots through ravenous post-klezmer beats and arresting Yiddish refrains. Mostly Kosher is a musical feast that explodes into a global food-fight of Jazz, Latin, Rock, Hip Hop, and Folk. These fearless soundsmiths highlight the architecture of heritage music and yet raze it to the ground.

Mostly Kosher is a fixture at renowned Los Angeles stages such as the John Anson Ford Amphitheatre and Skirball Cultural Center, while most recently gracing the stage of the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion for a live television broadcast to over half a million viewers. Their self-titled debut album has won international acclaim through recognition by World Music Network, Songlines Magazine, and BBC radio. Mostly Kosher’s first track, Ikh Hob Dikh Tsufil Lib (I Love You Much Too Much), was recognized as one of World Music Network’s Top 6 Songs of 2014. Additionally, the music video received two nominations at the Idyllwild Film Festival, for Best Song, and Audience Choice. Mostly Kosher now celebrates their latest single and music video release, Crawdad Bulgar.

Mostly Kosher is comprised of some of the highest regarded Los Angeles musicians (It’s true - just ask their mothers!): Bandleader Leeav Sofer, violinist Janice Mautner Markham, drummer Eric Hagstrom, bassist Adam Levy, accordion/trumpet Mike Bolger, trombonist Mike King, and on guitar, Will Brahm.
