Biography
I have been a Maryland public school teacher for the last 20 plus years. I made a documentary on the education of dalit girls in modern India in 2011. As part of this documentary, I explored the challenges faced by young dalit girls in their goal of achieving a high school education. This documentary has been shown as part of World Kids International traveling Film Festival at Mumbai, India and at the DC South Asian Film Festival held on June 1-3, 2012 in Washington DC. I have also made a short film on a local artist called Anu Das which was shown at an Art Exhibition, “Breaking Boundaries, Voices of Hope,” at Carroll Community College in April, 2014. I have made a promotional short film on Gandhi Degree College and a pilot for a proposed TV series called Sherlock Sai. Prior to completing “Picture Perfect,” I made a fictional short film, “A Good Match” which was shown at the 2015 Delhi International Film Festival and won the best actress award. In addition to making films, I have written and published two works of fiction, “Rani of Rampur” and “Of Kings and Queens” both of which are available on Amazon. I have also written several short stories and screenplays. One example is the “Epiphany” which has been published by a well regarded writer’s blog (http://www.thewritersdrawer.net/an-epiphany.html). I am currently working on a documentary project called “The Tawaifs of Basuka” which focuses on a 500 year old community of courtesans in a small village in northern India.
