1180 AND MORE

1180 AND MORE investigates the connection between dance and visual art, in which their properties exchange in their relationship with time. Drawing and dance meet to generate a dialogue between staticity, represented by singular images, and movement, created by their succession.
The white background, in which characters and extensions emerge and disappear, reveals fantasy and originality in modifying motion and color according to the different parameters or rhythm, size and shading, resolving in a mutant representation of dance even in the absence of biological bodies.

1180 AND MORE has born from the reproduction of a contemporary dance video screenshots on handmade drawings. Each scene was later divided by independent concepts; drawn and coloured by the dancer himself on paper with just pens and pencils .
The whole project has been realized in 4 months of work, which includes more than 1180 drawings, set at the end in order on Photoshop and later on video editing.
The perseverant and committed work of a dancer in a role of an artisan in a homemade old fashion animation, is one of the winning particularity of a film that has been touring in small and big festivals and contests all around the world.

Director Biography

Riccardo’s interest in art started at a very young age with his curiosity of the body lines and shapes in dance and drawing.
After several experiences in theater, musicals and figure skating, he started contemporary dance at the age of 16. Four years later he graduated from the professional training program of Selene Centro Studi in Bologna. At the same time Riccardo was training ballet at SpazioDanza in Bologna winning also a place at the intensive ballet program organized by MAB in Rimini, Italy.
During all of these years, he performed for EkoDanza in Bologna with urban dance performances “Delirdanza” and “Unseen translation of urban spaces”, for UbiDanza with “Conta Su di noi” in Genova and for Collettivo Cinetico with “Ballroaming” in Bologna.

His desire to deepen his skills in dance brought Riccardo first to Paris, studying daily with Peter Goss and Wayne Byars, and then to Brussels, for full time training at Dans Centrum Jette, La Raffinerie, Garage 29 and many more.

In 2014 Riccardo was selected to be part of Anton Lachky’s creation “a demain” for the 55th Venice Biennale. That same year he moved to Austria to complete his professional training at SEAD, Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance, performing with a wide range of renowned choreographers such as Theo Clinckard, Paul Blackman, Jelka Millic, Manuel Ronda, Sita Ostheimer, Ryan Mason, Rakesh Sukesh, Sade and Cristine Alleyne and many more.

Since July 2016 Riccardo is a member of Virgilio Sieni Dance Company in Florence, Italy, performing “La cittadinanza del corpo” in Mantova, “L’avventura” at Ravello Festival and since October 2016 touring in Italy and abroad with “Cantico dei Cantici”.

In 2017 Riccardo is also dancing for Kombinat in Potzdam (Germany), which mix dance with film, and with Tanz Company Gervasi in Vienna (Austria).

His parallel interest in visual art, brought him to create an animation dance film “1180 AND MORE” that has been touring worldwide in different festivals of the globe.
