"Nikolay Przhevalsky. Lifelong expedition"
The XIX century was a time of great expeditions, but Central Asia and its heart, Tibet - mysterious and hidden in the mountains - was still a blank on the world map.An in-depth study of this land was an important strategic priority for the great Empires.
Russian explorer Nikolay Przhevalsky was the first to venture into a land where there were neither maps nor roads.
Who was he really? A great scientist or a Russian spy? Why did the locals in Asia call him a Saint? Why was he so dead set on Lhasa? In the words of Przhevalsky himself: ”An enviable fate and an arduous duty fell upon me - to explore the lands where no educated European has ever set foot”.
Przhevalsky fulfilled his mission with honor - in factaccurate map of Central Asia which we use today is largely his work.
The film tells a story about Przhevalskydangerous expeditions, about his life and work.
Shootings of the film were in China, Tibet, Tien Shan, and the Republic of Kyrgyztan. The scenes of childhood and adolescence were filmed in the Smolensk region where the estate and the house in which he lived survive.
The film is the only media project which was honored by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin:“Amongst media projects we should distinguish outstanding documentary film Nikolay Przhevalsky: The life–long road. Astra-Art Television Company dedicated it to the 175th anniversary of the legendary explorer"
