Director Biography - Sophena Ahmed

Sophena comes from a Kashmiri background and has always had an interest in films and cinema. Early Bollywood their grand colours and convoluted narratives has influenced her. She is also very keen on films that are obscure and different. This has made her an eccentric director with artist vision in all aspects of her films, especially the mise-en-scene and set-design. She likes to dwell into the human psyche in her films that often leaves the audience either questioning themselves or her characters.

Director Statement

I want to create films that a bit different in form, a mixture of experimental with drama. I have a determined set of ideas and often follow the artist plan to the end. I always want to ask questions such as what if? and why? I like to incorporate psychology, philosophy into my films, not just to make films as viewing pleasure but for a reaction from the audience, a mirror into what dwells deep inside us all.
