Director Biography - Manuel Fanni Canelles

Manuel Fanni Canelles (1976) is a visual artist, trainer and theatrical director. He collaborates with galleires and private and public spaces in Italy and abroad. In his work he mainly uses means of expressing as video, installations and performances. Artist engaged in social, directs laboratories and workshop in areas related to the mental distress, detention and social exclusion.
Along with Spazio5 contemporaryart he works as an independent curator of international exhibitions, playing an active role in the debate regarding contemporary art. Among recent curatorial projects: RAFTING TO THE THIRD PARADISE (2015); AEIOU, AustriEns In secOnd 20th CentUry (2015); HEIMLICH, personale di Manuela Sedmach (2015): STORIES FROM THE EDGE, ARTraveling from a Austria to Adriatic (2015); ALTREMEMORIE: Park of contemporary art (2014); FRAME, International exhibition on experimental cinema (2013); CONTEMPORANEA, format for a public debate between cinema and market. (2013); IT'S ALL RIGHT, exhibition of new slovenian video art (2012). From 2014 he collaborates with Cittadellarte Fondazione Pistoletto.

Director Statement

The relationship between body/s and space rappresent the beginning of my artistic history and somehow the dominant of all my work. The theater offers me the opportunity to constantly ask myself the problem about the boundary between representation and reality.
Therefore, the transformation of the body is part of this process and in addition to representing an anchorage to scenic universe, implies a continous reflection on the concept of temporary and its representation.
My latest works are influenced by the impermanence of the places, by the precariousness of time and existence.
