Rory Mells
Rory has had a keen interest in producing films (both short and feature), commercials, and other video projects since 2003.
From that time until now he's had many opportunities to volunteer in the local film industry and produce independent films. Highlights include volunteering with the local Reel Shorts Film Festival. He produced, directed and wrote a feature film called ‘8 Dates with Paul’ in 2010. Through a mentorship program put on by the Reel Shorts Film Festival, he assisted on the local film ‘The Horizon Project’. He also volunteered with the Reel Shorts Youth Mentorship film ‘HB’ which won best youth film at both the Calgary and Austin International Film Festivals.
He produced, directed and wrote the short film ‘Sophia’ which was nominated for 'Best Short Film' at the 2014 Alberta Film and Television Awards (Rosies).
He's also a founding member of a local non profit media arts association PRIMAA (Peace Regional Media Arts Association).
His latest short film 'k-209' is set for release and had it's world premiere at the 2017 Central Alberta Film Festival.
I've always loved the classic musical films from the 50's and 60's, and it's where I've drawn a lot of my inspiration for this film, 'k-209'.
I wanted to incorporate that classic musical feel with a modern twist so to say, having the film set in the future.
Dustin Shaffer (k-209) and Caileigh Reid (RED) brought a tremendous amount of passion and commitment to the dance as you will see. I am so grateful for their commitment, plus the choreography of Jackie Taylor who brought this beautiful dance to life. I'd also like to acknowledge Al Gervais, our cinematographer, for giving this film that classic, elegant look.
I hope you see the uniqueness, care, and independent spirit we put into making it over these past two years.
Regards,
Rory Mells
